A lot of the blogs that I read have different themes for different days. I kinda like that idea, but don't think that I will be able to stick to it very well. However, I thought that for the next couple of Fridays, I would tell you about some of my friends making it "Friend Day Friday". I have been very blessed by some wonderful friends and I would like to tell the whole world (at least the small part of it that reads my blog) a little bit about some of them.
I decided that for my first friend, I would tell about the friend that I have know probably the longest .... Joy. (This is written in purple because nothing says Joy like the color purple!)
I have known Joy all of my life. She and her parents knew my parents before Danielle and I were born. After we moved from NC, we would come to Charlotte many times to visit them. I can still picture her running out of her house to meet our family when we would drive up to the house. We would give each other great big hugs and I was so happy to be with "my Joy".
When we were little we would swim in the pool in the backyard, watch Annie, would eat KRAFT mac and cheese, and would all snuggle up in her waterbed in her purple bedroom filled with dolls. She would take Danielle and I to the park and would even take us to school with her. I thought it was so much fun to go to college classes and spend the night in a dorm room.
As we grew up, the trips became a little more spread out, but I would still get letters and phone calls all the time. We did get to come back for special occasions like graduations, when she married Doug, and then when "our family" grew when she started having her babies. Each time was very special and felt like we hadn't spent anytime apart.
Eventually, when I was old enough to buy my own plane ticket, I would save up my money and make my own Spring Break and summer trips out to visit. After my Junior year of college, her and Doug even let me come and live with them for the whole summer. It was a great summer. I was so glad to be able to be a part of their family.
My whole entire life I wondered what it would be like to move back to Charlotte. I loved it there and, I could see Joy anytime that I wanted to. I decided that NC was the place that I wanted to be. So, when Josh and I got engaged, we started to plan on moving here right after we got married and graduated college.
Again, Joy and Doug said that I could come and live with them. This time I brought a new husband and a cat with me! After a few months of living in their basement, Doug helped us start the process of building our own brand new home (and he since he was the project manager, we got a few extras!). They really took care of us! I will never be able to thank them enough for opening their home and life to us.
I love her and her whole family so much. I love her husband, Doug! He has always made me smile and has given so much to me and my family. I LOVE her mom, Joyce. She is like another mom to me. She has also done so much for me. I love all 4 of the Huber children. Jessie "Mac", Jacob, and Emma Grace are such a joy in my life. I am so glad that I can watch them grow up. And Sarah Mei, we are praying that you hurry up and come home!
Now, after 27 years of friendship, I realize that Joy is more than just a normal friend. She is a TRUE life long friend. I know that we will always, ALWAYS, be friends. I know that she will be there to laugh with, cry with, pray with, and just hang out with. I know that she will always be there to help me and take care of me. (She has done it many times before!) I know she will always love me for who I am. I know that she will always love and support my family. I know that she loves Alyse like her own. I trust her, respect her, and love her with my whole heart.
Really, she isn't a friend, she is a sister.
I love you, Joy!
