Many of you who read this blog possibly read Angie Smith's blog Bring The Rain. (I love her blog. If you have never read it, please go check it out.) Anyway, today she posted about praying 7 scriptures for your child through out the day. These are the ones that she shared:



1. When they wake up: "Let the morning bring (child's name) word of your unfailing love, for she has put her trust in You. Show (her/him) the way (she/he) should go, for to you (he/she) lifts up her soul." (Adapted from Psalm 143:8)

2. When they are getting dressed: "Therefore, as God's chosen child, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Lord, help (him/her) bear with others and forgive whatever grievances (he/she) has against others. Help (him/her) forgive as the Lord forgave (him/her). And over all these virtues, help (him/her) put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." (Adapted from Colossians 3:12-14)

3. While they are eating: "Teach (child's name) the secret of being content in any and every situation whether well-fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Teach (him/her) that (he/she) can do everything through him who gives (him/her) strength." (Adapted from Philippians 4:12-13)

4. When they go out of the house: "(Name of child), do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-His good, pleasing and perfect will." (Adapted from Romans 12:2)

5. While they are taking a bath: Lord, give (name of child) clean hands and a pure heart, and let (him/her) not lift (his/her) soul to an idol or swear by what is false. Let (him/her) receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God (his/her) Savior. Let (him/her) be part of the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob. (Adapted from Psalm 24:4-6)

6. When they are going to bed: "The Lord Your God is with you; he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, be will rejoice over you with singing." (Zephaniah 3:17)

7. While they are sleeping: "I pray that (name of child) will do everything without complaining or arguing, so that he/she may become blameless and pure, a child of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which he/she shines like a star in the universe as he/she holds out the word of life-in order that he/she may boast on the day of Christ that he/she did not run or labor for nothing." (Adapted from Ephesians 2:14-16)
The idea of praying scripture for your children is something that I LOVE! Awhile ago I got a book called "Praying The Scriptures For Your Children: Discover How to Pray God's Will for Their Lives" by Jodie Berndt. I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! I have read it cover to cover, many times. A number of times, as part of my personal prayer time, I pull out this book and just read right from the book, placing Alyse's name in the verses. As I have prayed these prayers, I have started to develop a list of many specific verses that I pray everyday. I thought that I would share my prayer with you.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank you so much for Alyse. I come to you with confidence that if we ask anything according to your will, you hear us. (1 John 5:14). Because of this .....
"I pray that Alyse would confess with her mouth that Jesus is Lord, and that she would believe in her heart that you have raised Christ from the dead. Cause Alyse to call on your name, Lord, and save her." (Romans 10:9,13)
"I pray that Alyse would continue to live in Christ, rooted and built up in her, strengthened in the faith as she was taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." (Colossians 2:6-7)

"We have prayed for Alyse, and you have grated us what we have asked for. So now, we give her to you, Lord. For her whole life she will be given over to you." (1 Samuel 1:27-28)

Another great way to start is to pray for characteristics of Biblical heroes. Such as
Dear Lord,
I pray that Alyse will always be obedient to you, like Abraham was.
Help her to be a little girl after your own heart, like David was.
Help Alyse to be known for her noble character, like Ruth.
Please help her to have the faith of Elizabeth.
I pray that just like Gideon, she will give you all the glory for the good in her life.
Lord, help Alyse to be as kind, considerate, and respectful of others as Rebekah was.
Let Alyse serves as an example to others, even in her youth, just as Timothy did.
Help her to have the beauty of Esther, both in appearance and and spirit.
I pray that she will be wise in all things, including her choice of friends, just as Daniel was.
May her prayers be heard like Hannah's prayers.
I pray that she will have a heart for you like Mary did.
And I pray that just as Jesus served you with his life, that Alyse would live for you.

I know that this has been long, but I think that this is so important. God's Word is so powerful.
Plus (yes, one last scripture) God tell us in John 15:7 that "If you remain in me and MY WORDS remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you."
