Yesterday at church, Pastor asked us to share with someone around us the story of either:
1. Our best date that we have ever been on
2. Our worst date that we have ever been on
I thought it might be fun to share those stories with you.
The Best Date:
In high school, the best date that I ever went on was one night, the summer before I went to college, Josh stopped by my house and had picked up some McDonald's. (I know that sounds so romantic.) Then we drove to our school and we had a picnic right at dusk on the 50 yard line. We were the only ones there. We sat and talked about everything that was going to happen the next year when I went off to college and we promised each other that nothing was going to change between us. It was a great date, and the point in our relationship where I think both of us knew we were going to be together forever.
In college, we didn't really go on a lot of "dates". Basketball kinda got in the way of all that. However, Josh had a key to the gym, so there were many nights that the two of us would go in there all by ourselves. Josh would shoot around and I would watch. Again, it doesn't sound all that romantic, but we both really enjoyed those nights.
After we got married, our best date was either this one or this one. Can't decide.
The Worst Date:
My worst date was when I was a freshman in HS. I actually didn't know that I was going on a date, but it turned out to be a very embarrassing experience.
My sister was dating this guy named Rodney (I liked to call him "Little Rod"). He had a friend named Josh. (NOT MY JOSH!) I guess that Josh liked me, and Rodney was always trying to get us to do things together, but I was REALLY not interested.
One day, Danielle asked me if I wanted to go to the movies with her and some of her friends. I said yes and was all set for a big day at the Marion mall. My mom was driving us and went to go pick up Danielle's "friend". Her "friend" ended up being Rodney, which was fine, except he decided to bring a "friend" for me. You guessed it ... he brought Josh. I remember turning and giving my sister a death look as they got into the car and both yelled "Surprise!" like it was the best idea in the world for us to go on a double date.
When we got to the mall, I though, "Ok, we will go to the movies. I can sit there and not say anything, and then when it is over, we can go home and I can kill my sister!" So, we went to the movie theater, got our tickets, and headed for our seats. Of course, Josh made a big deal out of working it out that he could sit by me. As the previews were playing, I remember thinking, "I hope he shuts up when the movie starts." Little did I know that that was just the previews of his upcoming events too.
By the end of the movie, he had not only carried on his own conversations with the actors on the screen (as in the character said, "What was you're name again?" to which he shouted out, "Josh! This is my date, Stephanie." etc...) , but he also, for some reason that I don't remember, (must have blocked it) took off his shoe and threw it, where it landed at least 5 rows in front of us. Then he, of course, had to go get his shoe, so he ran up there, got his shoe, and then decided that he should run to the very front, stand below the screen, did a little dance, and then came back to sit by me, who was trying to hide in my chair.
When the movie was over, I was so happy. I wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. However, my mom was not coming back to get us for another half hour. So everyone decided that we would walk around the mall. I think we made it as far as Sam Goody's (a music store) before I was ready to make my escape. I decided that I would walk to the very back of the store and maybe he wouldn't find me. All of a sudden I heard a voice behind me. The voice sounded just like Kermit the frog. I turned and there was a large poster of Kermit about 6 inches from my face talking to me with the help of Josh. I gave a sympathy smile/annoyed laugh. He then decided that he would follow me around the store and pick up really dumb things and say, "Stephanie, stop trying to steal that!". I could not take it anymore. I went to the front and then walked out of the store as fast as I could. He proceeded to run after me. As I continued walking, he was yelling my name behind me. Then I heard a big splash. Yes, he tried to jump on the fountain and run around the edge of it and his foot fell in. So now he was slipping/running behind me. Finally I made it outside where I told him I was going to wait for my mom. I asked him to go find my sister and Rodney, and let them know my mom was going to be there in about 15 minutes. He did, and I was finally left alone! When my mom got there, I jumped in the front seat and told her everything. We drove the boys home and my sister apologized the whole way home and promised that she would tell Rodney to make Josh leave me alone.
He basically did. There was the one time that he showed up to youth group with this MASSIVE card and gave it to me in front of a big group of people, but my friend Brock told him to leave me alone, so that was the end of Josh. (Praise God!)
Doesn't that sound like a great date?! Trust me, to a 15 year old girl, it was the worst day ever!
I thought that I would never even be friends with another "Josh" again, but I found a wonderful "Josh" to date and then marry!

September 22, 2008 at 9:37 PMI hope you're able to laugh at your worst date now, because reading about it had me laughing out loud! It had to be so horrible, but I found it hysterical.
