You may remember that awhile back I asked for you to be in prayer for Josh. Well, I thought that I would give you a little more info on what that was all about.....

Josh has been a Patrol Officer (meaning that he answers 911 calls, files reports, patrols his area, makes arrest, writes tickets, goes to court cases, etc...) for right at 4 years now. He loves his job and has been given the opportunity to be involved in many things that he has learned a lot from and enjoyed. However, he decided that he was ready to start looking into other areas of police work. There have been a few opportunities that he has put his name in for.

There was one position that he thought that he was going to get a month or so ago. Many of his fellow officers also thought that he was going to get the job and it was kind of surprising when other officers were chosen. Josh was disappointed, but he decided that he was going to wait for another position to come available.

A week or so later he put his name in for a second position, interviewed, and was again was not chosen. I (not so secretly) was glad that he did not get that particular job. It was something that I do not think that Josh really would have enjoyed. After thinking about it, he agreed with me that it was probably the best thing that he was not chosen.

A few days later, he was told about a position with a warrant service unit. Josh and I discussed it and he decided that he would put his name in, but really did not think that he would get a call back because this is a very difficult team to get on. A few days later he got an e-mail telling him that he had been chosen to come and do a try-out with the team. (They had cut down the applicants to only 8 people.)

Josh was very excited about being invited to the tactical day. He went that Thursday and came home very pleased with the outcome. We both decided that it didn't matter if he didn't get the job, because just getting to that point was a huge accomplishment.

Last week he got an e-mail that he did not make it to the final 4 who were going to interview for the job. Josh knew that the competition was tough and was proud of himself for even making it that far.

The next day, the phone rang here at home. It was a CMPD phone number that I did not recognize. I decided to just let the machine get it. It was a Sergeant who asked that Josh called him as soon as possible. I called Josh and gave him the number to call back. A little later, a very excited Josh called me with this news:

The Sergeant who called was actually the one who interviewed Josh for the 2nd position that he applied for. He could tell in his interview that that position was not really the area that would be best for Josh, but he was impressed with him as an officer. He had also heard that Josh had been selected for the tactical day with the warrant team. When he heard that he had not been selected, he decided to call Josh and ask him to join a new specialized team that he is putting together. (No interview or try out necessary.) The team will be focused on finding ways to get the many repeat offenders off the streets and not only sent to jail for a short time, but sent away to prison.

Josh is very excited about this position. His new Sergeant wants him and the 2 other selected officers to start right away. So, Josh's new position starts on Monday.

I am very proud of him. I am also excited that he will have a flexible schedule, meaning he can have weekends and sometimes evenings off (unless he is on a stake out or something.) He also will have holidays off! YAY!

Looking back at the past month or so, it is obvious that God had a plan for all of this.

We are just going to keep praying that God will direct Josh's path as an officer, and will continue to keep him safe as he starts in this new line of police work.

    Stephanie,

I am Colleen's sister and I read your blog all the time.

This entry touched me for 2 reasons - 1 because I also work for the City and in my position I do some work with some areas of the Police Department - and I have been to training with quite a few officer of all different ranks.

The other because my husband Joe went through a very similar situation at his job. He works for Verizon Wireless and he started in sales - it wasn't so bad when we didn't have kids. But then after Danielle and Joseph were born it was harder with him working late, or on weekends or holidays - he tried many times to get into the corporate office - just like Josh had many interviews - and finally our prayers were answered and he got in. We realize we had to wait because the position he got gave him a wonderful boss who has since helped him move onto a department that will offer him more growth with the company.

So as you say - it all happens for a reason and I am happy for the three of you!!!
