I just got back from a date with my wonderful husband, and I had to tell you about it.
I walked into our bedroom this afternoon and found this box with a note on the lid. When I read the note it was a beautiful love note from Josh telling me how much he loved me and that he had a wonderful date planned for us. He told me that I had about 2 hours to get ready. When I opened the box, there was a beautiful dress inside. I was so excited and rushed to get ready. I then sat and waited for him to come home, but he didn't. Instead I received a phone call instructing me to come outside. When I walked out the door I was shocked to see a limo. I was ushered inside where Josh was waiting for me with 2 dozen purple roses. (My favorite!) We kissed and I asked him where we were going. He told me that we were going to a very nice restaurant. The driver began to drive towards the city, but I didn't really recognize where we were going to. After some time I realized that we weren't going to a restaurant, we were headed towards the airport. Josh then handed me two tickets to London. We made it just in time to jump on a private jet. After we landed he took me to a very nice, expensive restaurant where we ate a fabulous dinner and dessert. Now, I am sitting in a very posh (Like the English word I threw in there?) hotel where out my window I can see the lights of this beautiful city. I better go to bed now though because we have a busy day of seeing all the sites tomorrow and then we are headed to Paris.........
Ok, that didn't really happen.
What really happened is that I did have a date with Josh tonight, but I was wearing jeans. I was also eating a sandwich from Arby's and was sitting in the front seat of a police car in Charlotte, NC.
And it was one of the best dates that we have been on.
On my way home, alone, I started thinking about how great of a time we really had. We laughed. We had good conversation. We flirted. We kissed. It really was really special. (Not everyone gets to have a date in a police car.)
It also made me think that I have a problem sometimes where I get these great plans and expectations in my head. I want all these wonderful things and then I am let down when things aren't perfect or storybook. Well, things aren't always going to be picture perfect. We don't have the time or the money to live in a movie/fantasy world.
God is writing the plan for my life, not a screen writer.
And sometimes the simple things in life really are the best.
