I don't think a lot of you know this, but in November, Josh and I bought a second house. Actually, Josh bought a second house.

No, we are not moving! (I wish!)

Josh for many years has wanted to get into the whole flipping/renting houses trend. This all started when he was in college and he took a bunch of real estate classes. (He was a double major in college - Criminal Justice and Business. Real Estate was his main business interest.) Back then, he and our friend Aaron, wanted to buy houses in the area and then were planning on renting them out to college students, but they never did it. Well, ever since then, Josh has been reading up on the idea of flipping and has been keeping his eye out for possible houses to buy. He has held off, but finally decided to give it a try.

Josh decided a few months ago to call Chris Brown. (Chris Brown #2, as I call him. Not singer Chris Brown. That is Chris Brown #1. And not Mtv Chris Brown. Union Chris Brown. Are you with me? There are way too many Chris Browns out there! Anyways...Chris is a real estate agent who goes to Elevation. He also use to work at Metrolina Christian my first year of teaching.) Josh told Chris about his business idea and Chris told him that he would help him get started.

In November, Chris found a house that had been foreclosed on and had been put up for auction. After a lot of discussion, and prayer, Josh bought the house (with a little help from his friend Sean) and we began to plan on our first flipping adventure.

Yes, so far this has been an adventure. You see, the guy, Ken, who lived at the house with his mother and 3 kids asked Josh if he could stay until Thanksgiving. Josh decided that was only about 2 weeks away and told him that was fine. Well, Thanksgiving came and went, and the family was still there. Josh started the eviction process (which is suppose to take 10 days), but because of lawyer problems (lost papers, vacations, holiday hours, waiting periods, etc.) this eviction has taken over 6 weeks!

Josh was starting to get a little stressed about the whole situation. Ken had told Josh about a dozen different plans/stories about when he was leaving and why he was still in the house, but he still wasn't going anywhere.

I was starting to get very stressed. To be honest - I chose not to talk or even think about "Josh's house".

Well, a few weeks ago, Josh and Sean were sitting around at work one day and they decided to look up the Ken guy. After some investigation they found that he had been arrested and also had a warrant out for his arrest because of drug related charges and being caught in a hotel room with a prostitute. So they decided that since he had no place to go, they had a great place for him - JAIL.

Well, last Friday was the day that we have all been waiting for. The locks were to be changed and Ken was suppose to be moved out. At 10 am Josh officially had all legal rights to the property. I had not been out to see the house yet, so I decided to go with him out to get the key and see his house. When we showed up..... there was Ken. He hadn't moved anything out!

Josh was ticked! I was scared!

Then began the drama.

A little after 10 the two officers from the Sheriff's department came to do the official eviction. Josh got out of the car to sign the last few papers and to get his key. I was told to stay in the car. As I sat there, I watched as one of the officers then placed Ken under arrest because of his warrant. When that happened, the yelling and tears began. Ken and his mom (a 79 year old lady who obviously was confused and maybe a little crazy) were yelling at Josh and making a big scene. Soon a Monroe Police officer and two more officers from the Sheriff's department were out on there too.

Then began the talks of calling DSS to come and take the kids because there was no one to get them from school because the grandma didn't drive. More crying and yelling! Then the ex-wife was called and she was given the responsibility of getting the kids and taking the grandma to a hotel room and off the property.

After everyone was leaving, Josh came to get me out of the car and took me for the tour of the house. It is pretty nice. It was VERY DIRTY and SMELLED VERY BAD, but really is in good shape. It is only a few years old (3?) and basically just needs a good cleaning, new paint, new carpet, and some new lights.

So, all Saturday and Monday were spent out at Josh's house. The painting is being done today and tomorrow. The new carpet goes in on Thursday or Friday. It should be all cleaned up and up for sale by next week.

Anyone looking for a new house?

* I know that many of you are reading this thinking that we are crazy! Yes, we know that the market is bad. Yes, I have watched many episodes of "Flip That House" and "Property Ladder". Yes, we have had many people tells us not to do it, but I am trusting my husband and the Lord to take care of us. If you asked Josh, "why?" he would tell you that he has really prayed and thought about this. Also, he has listened to Pastor for 2 years talk about stepping out and knowing that God can make big things happen. This is a sun stand still thing for Josh. So, please pray and trust God with us!
